Jack Daniels, president of Madison Area Technical College, will announce his recommendation for a firm to redevelop the college’s downtown campus within a week, college officials said Tuesday.
Daniels will then bring the recommendation to the board of trustees at its May 3 meeting, Mark Thomas, vice president of administrative services and chief financial officer, said.
Thomas said that the selected developer will be named when the college posts legal notice of the May 3 meeting on April 26, or before.
“As soon as Dr. Daniels makes his decision, he’s going to notify the board,” said Frances Huntley-Cooper, chair of the board of trustees.
Five prospective developers — the Alexander Co., Baum Revision/Gardner Capital, CD Smith/HKS Holdings, Hovde Properties and Sherman Associates — have offered proposals that would variously bring hotels, housing, offices, shops, restaurants and work/live space for artists to the full-block property just off the Capitol Square.
