The former Rodefeld homestead at Cottage Grove Road and Sprecher Road on the east side of Madison could become the site for a new apartment complex in two years.
Hovde Properties, the developer, has proposed a four-story, 75-unit building at 6510 Cottage Grove Road. The building is tentatively called Sprecher Road Apartments.
Dimension IV Madison Design Group, the project architect, filed a letter of intent with the Madison Planning Commission indicating a desire to begin construction in 2019 and with a completion date of 2020.
The site is currently used for agricultural use and would need to be rezoned.
According to documents filed with the city, the 112,000-square-foot building would rest on 3 acres of land. It would feature about 73,000 square feet of open space, more than three times what is required by city standards.
