Hovde proposes makeover for downtown building

First, it acquired the building, and now, Hovde Properties is proposing a $15 million to $18 million renovation of the AT&T building at 316 W. Washington Ave., which was built in 1970. According to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal, the company wants to add more glass on the building’s West Washington side, revamp the lobby area, and create usable office space inside for future tenants. On the building’s north side, which runs along North Henry Street, windows would be cut into the stone façade on many of the structure’s 10 floors, bringing in more light. Hovde Properties is still studying finances and has not decided whether to seek TIF support from the city. The company wants to begin renovations as soon as it gets city approvals.
